Our method: how we assess

Our method: how we assess Wikipedia suitability

We assess whether a person, company or organisation meets Wikipedia's requirements for an article, and then — within those requirements — help create or amend it. Our method rests on one principle: a page only remains if independent, reliable sources cover the subject in substance. We judge that honestly, in advance. We give no guarantees: the Wikipedia community decides independently.

Who does the work

The work is done by Julius Tekstra, who has worked on Wikipedia-related research and projects since 2014. He coordinates the intake, the suitability assessment and client contact.

After the source research, Julius builds the article himself — neutral and fully traceable to what is independently verifiable — and also handles the editing and, where relevant, the publication or submission of the work.

How an assessment works

  1. Intake. You describe the subject and the existing coverage.
  2. Sources mapped. We inventory which independent sources cover the subject.
  3. Testing. We weigh those sources for independence, reliability, secondariness and depth, against the criteria of the relevant language edition.
  4. An honest verdict. A reasoned verdict on viability — including when that is "not sufficient right now".

How we weigh sources

A source counts when it is independent of the subject, reliable (editorial oversight), secondary (interpretive) and covers the subject in substance. Own channels, press releases, interview answers and social-media followings do not count. Our source-quality matrix sets out, per source type, what does and does not count, each with a reference to the official Wikipedia guideline.

Working across language editions

We work across several language editions, including the Dutch and English Wikipedias. Each edition governs itself and applies its own criteria; English rules do not automatically apply on the Dutch Wikipedia.

Editorial principles

A neutral, factual tone; every statement traceable to an independent source; no promotion. We write within Wikipedia's guidelines, not around them.

Independent of Wikipedia and Wikimedia

We are not affiliated with the Wikimedia Foundation or Wikipedia and have no special access to, or influence over, Wikipedia editors or administrators. Wikipedia is governed independently and edited by the community. We therefore cannot guarantee publication, acceptance or permanence.

Work versus control

What we do

We do the source research, weigh the sources, write neutrally, edit and handle the publication or submission of the work.

What Wikipedia does

Wikipedia decides independently. Reviewers, the community and administrators determine acceptance, changes and permanence — which we cannot steer.

Commercial transparency

This is a paid service. Where we contribute with a commercial interest, we do so transparently and disclosed, in line with the paid-contribution policy (WP:PAID) and the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use. We do not quote a fixed price in advance; that follows the assessment.
